A Thanksgiving Play
by the Multi-Age Classes

For simplicity, the term "Indian" is used instead of the more correct term,
"Native American."

"The Pilgrims look cold and hungry."

"Have you watched them planting?
Their seeds will never grow."

"Should we help them?"

"What if they try to attack us?"

"Their ways are strange."

(Squanto speaks.)
****
"I know the English.  They
will not hurt us.  Men who
attack never bring families.
If we don't help them, they
will have trouble getting
through the next rough winter
when food is scarce."

(Squanto talks to the Pilgrims.)
******
"We are afraid for you.  Conditions
are harsh here.  I will stay and
teach you how to plant corn.  I
will show you how to catch fish,
and which berries to eat."

(Later, he reports back to the tribe.)
******
"They really needed help!  I taught
them to plant corn with fish heads,
the Indian way.  Then I showed
them which plants they could eat.
They want us to join them for a
feast celebrating their harvest."

Some of the Pilgrims are worried.
There is not enough food for
the winter, and many Indians
will be coming to the feast.

"We would not be alive now
if the Indians hadn't helped us."

(It is decided.)
****
The Pilgrims gather their food
together and prepare for the
great feast to come.

They cook for many days.

The Indians bring fresh meat.......

...and their families, too.

Somehow, when the meal is ready,
there is plenty of food for all.

The Pilgrims pray for
Peace for the people.

They hope it is the beginning
of a long friendship.

Singing Together About
"Old Tom Turkey"

After the performance, the Pilgrims
and Indians play peacefully together.
