Definition of sociology
Sociology is the study of human relationships. As you study sociology, you will explore various aspects of culture, including the learned norms, customs, values, knowledge, artifacts, language, and symbols that are constantly communicated among people who share a common way of life.

Weeks 7 and 8 - Folktales, Fairy Tales, and Social Control

Second Nine Weeks of Semester Course
Week 1 - Family
Week 2 - Segregation
Week 3 - Religion
Week 4- Terrorism
Weeks 5 and 6 - Deviant Behavior
Weeks 7 and 8 - Subcultures and Counter Cultures

First Nine Weeks Extra Credit
Click on The Sociology Game Show (to the left). Choose one or more of the games and play. Write down the names of the games you chose and 30 questions and their answers. This activity is worth one replacement grade.

Grading system
Your daily grades make up 80% of your overall grade. The nine weeks exam is worth 20% of your overall grade. Each week you are required to bring in one news item that is related to sociology. This assignment counts as two daily grades. Please refer to the PDF link to the grading rubric on this website.

Your weekly test, which is usually given on Fridays, also counts as two daily grades. This test covers all notes, textbook material, and class discussion.

Students are expected to particiate in the weekly discussions by listening attentively, responding appropriately, and contributing regularly.
