What you can expect from this class
Hopefully, our class will be informative, interesting, challenging, engaging, entertaining, and helpful. There will be very few outside assignments, and most of your work will be done in class. Because our state requires juniors to take the TCAP Writing Assessment Test and because writing is a skill that will help you for the rest of your life, we will write frequently in this class. The few outside assignments include reading two novels plus other short works, studying for tests, and completing one major project per nine weeks. If we have additional outside work, it will be minimal.

What I expect from you
More than likely you have a busy schedule outside of school with work, sports, church, and/or family obligations. I want you to have a successful year without feeling overwhelmed. Because you won't have much work outside of class, you should expect to put forth maximum effort during classtime. I will expect you to maintain regular attendance, arrive to class on time, participate, and stay on task.

What you can expect from me
My job as your teacher is to help you prepare for life after the 11th grade. Some of you are making plans for college. Some of you are preparing to enter the work force. I want to provide you the best learning experiences and opportunities possible. Therefore, you can count on our classes to be structured everyday with time in class for you to ask questions and receive personal assistance. If at any time you feel as though you are not receiving the help you need during class, contact me privately. I will make an appointment with you to work with you outside of class. I want to make a positive difference in your life, and I hope you will make a positive difference in mine. We can accomplish these goals if we work together and show one another respect.

What you need for class
Three-ring sturdy notebook, 5 dividers, one pack 3 x 5 cards, one pack 4 x 6 note cards, blue or black ink pen, red ink pen, plus additional class fees (to be announced in class)
