Spring ‘08 activities: We are sending the following to this year’s East TN Teen Institute: 2 Huntland Teams, 3 youth leaders (YAB's) and Huntland graduates, Sierra McKendrick (Junior Staff) & Bobby Ray (YAB Coordinator). Our club recently hosted a Town Meeting to discuss the problems related to underage drinking. This spring we have also been helping the National Guard at North and South Middle Schools with a presentation.
Purpose The purpose of P^3is to promote a positive atmosphere for our students which will enable them to make the right choices concerning the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD), as well as sexual abstinence until marriage. Sponsors The current sponsors of P^3are Ray Smith smithr1@k12tn.net and Janet Colburn colburnj@12tn.net This year’s club has a total of 77 members. Membership The membership of P^3will include students who have demonstrated a commitment to remain free of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and are willing to develop the leadership skills necessary to be a positive influence on his or her peers. Member Pledge I pledge to use my power of influence in a positive way, show my pride by standing tall in what I believe, and to prevent my peers from harming themselves and others. (This pledge is signed by the student and sponsors. They are given a card with the pledge for their wallet.) Activities for this school year ü Participated in National SmokeOut - Banners and Posters as well as handouts from the American Cancer Society. Each day a different dressup day for that week ü Performing Skits (Subjects: Attitudes, Underage drinking, Smoking, and Drug Use) for elementary students and middle school students) ü T-shirts for members - dark blue with P3 logo on front and student name on back. ü 10 Club members will attend East TN Teen Institute this summer for leadership training in ATOD prevention/awareness ü 4 Club members will attend ETTI as youth staff: Eric Scott, Jesma Curtis and Rose Prince
