(Director's Update)
Welcome to the Coffee County School System website! You will quickly discover our site to be very informative and user-friendly. During recent years, our school system has made continuous progress toward meeting the challenges of local, state and federal accountability models. The Coffee County School System has acquired a reputation for academic excellence while serving a rapidly growing student population that now exceeds 4,725 students in grades PK- 12. All eight of our schools along with our Central Office are accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The passing of the federal education legislation, No Child Left Behind, has resulted in some of the greatest changes in education since integration in the 1950's. To successfully meet the goals outlined in NCLB, teachers, principals and school leaders in Coffee County and across the nation must rethink how we organize and deliver educational services throughout grades k-12. Educators in Coffee County are taking proactive measures to ensure each student receives the best education possible through individualized instruction and ongoing assessment of academic achievement.
Members of our Board of Education participated in a summer retreat in April 2006 to review our district’s performance and revisit each of our four goals. Our system's four primary goals for 2006-07 include:
· Increase Student Performance
· Improve Communications
· Attract and Retain Highly Qualified Personnel
· Celebrate Successes
These four goals will continue to serve as anchors for system-wide planning, budgeting and staff development. Our Tennessee Comprehensive System-wide Planning Process (TCSPP) provides specific details about each goal and includes objectives for the current academic year. The TCSPP is now available on this website. Planned outcomes will include exceeding all state and federal benchmarks for school improvement, maintaining a safe and orderly environment within each school, improved morale among all employees, improved two-way communications throughout the district and improving facilities.
To ensure continuous stakeholder involvement in the educational process, Superintendent's Communication Councils and Advisory Boards comprised of educators, local business leaders, students, parents and other individuals within our community have been maintained for the third year. These groups also help monitor our district's progress toward each goal and collect ongoing feedback relative to continuous improvement.
I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure our students receive the best education possible during this school year and for many years to come. Working together, we will continue to successfully accomplish our mission: to graduate literate, self-confident and responsible life-long learners.
