Manatee Mission
This
web site is about our project, mentor, links, and information for our adventures
in Supercomputing class. This page
will tell about the AiS program,
our team members, the project area, and will give links to resourceful
sites.
AiS is the shorthand form for Adventures in Supercomputing. Supercomputing is a student conducted class. The object of the class is to help students learn different programming languages, such as C++. Students then get into groups and come up with a project to solve with computational sciences. Computational science involves using computers to solve problems that might be hard to find out physically. These projects go to a competition with projects from other schools with AiS classes. You can visit Coffee County's AiS page here.
With the different factors affecting the population of the West Indian manatee, what will the population be in 25 years (will it be large enough to avoid extinction)? This is the problem that our group wants to address. Different factors that affect the population are poachers, boating accidents, cold water, and water locks. We will use formulas to help compute the population of the manatees for a given year. In our project, we will compare the population numbers to find the pattern that helps determine the population from year to year. We will present our results in the form of graphs and possibly charts.
Our group is composed of four members:
Elizabeth Lusk: Elizabeth is a senior at Coffee County Central High School. She is from Manchester, TN. She is 17 years old. In this team, she is the programmer. If you would like to contact her, she can be reached here.
Nicky Duncan: Nicky is a senior at Coffee County Central High School. She is from Woodbury, TN. She is 18 years old. She is the web page designer and public relations person in the team. If you would like to contact her, she can be reached here.
Carla Miller: Carla is a junior at Coffee County Central High School. She is from Manchester, TN. She is 17 years old. In this team, she is the recorder. If you would like to contact her, she can be reached here.
Jacque Daley: Jacque is a junior at Coffee County Central High School. She is from Murfreesboro, TN. She is 16 years old. In this team, she is the recorder. If you would like to contact her, she can be reached here.
