History of P3l May 31st – June 4th , 2004: Mike Ray and Ray Smith and four students attended the East Tennessee Teen Institute While attending this camp, they created the framework for a new club at their school called P3 While attending ETTI the students kept hearing the term peer pressure discussed by workshop leaders, keynote speakers and youth leaders at the camp. They wanted to take something bad and turn it around for a good purpose. In developing their community action plan with Mr. Ray and Mr. Smith, they expressed all of the basic ideals held by P3 today. They wanted a club at their school where students could spend time with like-minded teens trying to remain free of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs as well as working to influence other students in their school to make the same choice. l 2004-2005 : P3 began at Huntland High School with a keynote address from Eric Renegar The club quickly grew to 40 members. l 2005 ETTI : Huntland P3 returned to ETTI in June of 2005 with 13 students. Three of the original four served on the camp’s Youth Advisory Board as teen leaders for the week. Mr. Ray and Mr. Smith presented a workshop on “Activities that Teach and Service Learning”. During this workshop they also shared their experiences in getting this club up and running. l 2005-2006: The first P3 “franchised” club was started at Grundy County High School with the help of Gayle VanHooser who volunteered to sponsor this group. l 2005-2006: Huntland P3 President, Bobby Ray is selected as the Chair of the Youth Affairs Committee for the National Association of Teen Institutes and as such helps develop youth activities at the 2007 NATI National Conference held in New Orleans.
